There
are many memorable lesson horses that cross our paths,
but to find a truly great and masterful lesson horse
is a gift from God. Our Bay was just such a gift.
Reynolds Bailey, known to us as “Bay,”
had a heart for teaching and reaching children that
is unparalleled. Bay taught lessons with me for over
17 years in the Franklin, TN area -- and he truly did
teach “with” me. He trained children at
my side and brought them to a love and understanding
of horses they couldn’t achieve in any other way.
Bay worked with many challenged children, his tenderhearted
and delicate manner calming their anxious thoughts and
easing them into a relationship with one of God's most
special creations.
Bay's claim to fame was teaching students how to canter.
His gentle spirit and quiet demeanor allowed even the
most timid child the opportunity to successfully experience
horseback riding for the first time. Many of the children
he taught are now accomplished riders in their own right.
On Sunday, April 13, 2008, our Bay left us after a
severe episode of colic. The veterinarian did everything
possible, and our staff kept a vigil, hoping to bring
him through, but his pain was too great and it was clear
his time was at hand.
I want to thank the many people who have extended their
condolences through flowers, cards, letters and prayers.
Bay was dearly loved by so many. Scores of children
who never had a chance to own their own horse felt love
and ownership with Bay.
He will be sorely missed.
